Time to Hang Up The Headphones

Hello everybody,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Sands Radio on Friday 26th of May 2023.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the presenters past and present, Ian Fortt, DJPep, Liz Catlow, Steve Bradshaw, John Pye, Tony Curtis, Mark Leigh, Ben Chadwick, Tanya Hanson and last but not least, my son and partner Ben Clarkson.  Without Ben's hard work and dedication, Sands Radio would never have got on the air. A massive thanks Ben.

Furthermore, I would like to extend my appreciation to our listeners who have supported us throughout the last three years. Your loyalty and enthusiasm have been a constant source of motivation for us to produce a unique and professional-sounding station that is very popular not only locally but throughout the country.

I would also like to thank Paul Godley who did a brilliant installation of the radio station, and Andy Bolton for helping us through the technical problems (great guy), for their time and effort in making this radio station a great success. A big thank you to all the sponsors and advertisers, including Mediconf UK for their support along with the King's Head.

As for the reason for the closure, I have decided to move on to new opportunities before my retirement. After much consideration, I believe it is the right time to conclude this radio chapter of my working life and concentrate on my successful online businesses. Time to hang up the headphones for good? I think so.

Radio will never be as I remember it over 20 years ago. So much has changed and a lot of it is not for the better. For smaller stations, it is increasingly more difficult to make a go of it with the internet swallowing up ad revenues, and the avalanche of small radio stations starting up. It has become a hobby not a business for many.

It has been an incredible journey for Sands Radio, starting up in difficult times 6 months into the covid pandemic. We hosted outside broadcasts and conducted many interviews with renowned music and tv stars. I am grateful for the wonderful experiences and memories that we have created together. I am proud that we managed to produce such a unique professional brand and sound.

In the meantime, we are still broadcasting through most of May with plenty of variations in shows up to the final day of the 26th. So keep us locked on for some more surprises along the way.

You luved em… and we played them!
